You may qualify to participate in research studies that focus on treatments for Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use it to control blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes typically develops in adults, but can also affect children as well. Although the cause of diabetes is unknown, people who are overweight, have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and are related to someone with  Type 2, are at a higher risk of developing the disease.

More than 20 Canadians are diagnosed with diabetes every hour of every day.

Approximately 90% of people with diabetes have Type 2.
